Albany Chiropody / Podiatry Services

Do I need to be referred by my doctor?
Although your G.P. might suggest you should seek treatment from a Chiropodist / Podiatrist you do not need approach your doctor first. If you think that you have a problem with your feet, you can seek the advice of a Chiropodist. A qualified Chiropodist / Podiatrist will be able to advise you and in most cases offer a diagnosis and treatment as they are specialists in this area. If you require alternative medical attention you will be referred to your own GP or other suitable practitioner.
Services Offered at Albany Clinic Coventry
At Albany Podiatry Clinic we offer a wide range of services including:
Routine Chiropody Treatment
Corns, hard skin and ingrowing toenails can be very painful, especially as our feet work so hard every day. Our Chiropodists can treat these and other conditions, as well as giving you advice on preventing future problems.
Your first session will begin with a thorough assessment of your feet. They will then give appropriate treatment which may include trimming nails, removing corns, reducing hard skin and applying a moisturizer. You will also discuss your future health needs and, if necessary, develop a treatment plan.
Nail Cutting
Many people just can't get down to their feet themselves, for example if the nails become too thickened, or if you have back trouble or arthritis. At Albany clinic our chiropodists offer to trim only your nails and advise you on how to keep them healthy in the future.
Biomechanics
Assessing your walking and posture helps relieve pain and discomfort in your feet, legs and lower back. By taking a closer look at the muscles and joints in your feet and legs and the effects these may have on the way you walk, we can offer advice and treatment to reduce your symptoms and help to prevent future symptoms from arising.
Your biomechanics assessment will be carried out by a Chiropodist registered with Health Professions Council and will take approximately one hour. Your feet and legs will be thoroughly assessed and your Chiropodist will create a personal treatment plan which may include exercises and special insoles for your shoes.
Verruca Treatment
Verruca is a contagious virus that seems to thrive in damp conditions such as swimming pools, showers and bathrooms. The common treatments for verruca are gels or ointments from the chemist. However, these treatments can burn the surrounding skin if not used with care.
Our Chiropodists can help you to get relief from the pain, discomfort and inconvenience of verruca. One of our methods is called cryotherapy, which is proven to be one of the most effective methods available. The treatment involves freezing the affected area to treat the verruca. A course of treatment is usually required and your Chiropodist will offer advice on the best options for you.
Nail Surgery
The most common problem that requires nail surgery is an ingrowing toenail. This is sometimes caused by poor nail cutting or awkwardly shaped or damaged nails. These toenails frequently become infected and are often very painful. People are often referred to us by their doctor or another Chiropodist.
Nail surgery can be carried out using local anaesthetic. The whole procedure takes less than an hour and the surgery is then followed by a repeat visit for a re-dressing. In most cases this will cure the problem and stop the nail in the painful area growing back.
Diabetic Foot Health Check and Advice
Diabetes is a condition whereby production of the hormone insulin is defective. One of the effects of diabetes is that it reduces the circulation and sensitivity in your feet. You may not feel extreme temperatures, pain or touch. As a result, foot problems may occur without even realising. Our Chiropodists will be able to assess the blood supply and nerve status of your feet and recommend an appropriate treatment plan. If you have diabetes it is recommended that you should have a foot examination at least once a year, even if you do not have problems with your feet.
Foot Health Check
The foot health check provides a comprehensive examination of your feet, and is ideal for regult monitoring of foot health. The Albany Chiropodists’ advice about home foot care and how to maintain healthy feet will be invaluable. This check up provides a comprehensive examination to help you maintain healthy feet and re-assure you.
